Review of The Shootist (1976) by Paavo L — 30 Oct 2009
I've never been a big john wayne fan - not that I hated him or anything either; i've just never thought much of his acting ability. but he was brilliant in this film where he plays a dying gunfighter in the dying days of the old west.
The story is about j.b. books and his coming to terms with his imminent death from cancer. he's lived by a sort of rugged individualist code all his life and wants to die with dignity and not in bed suffering. at last he comes up with a plan to rid the rapidly changing world of him and his kind.
