I could sit here and bad mouth a guy who made a career from overacting, but I guess that's part of his genius - I don't think we will ever see an actor as bad as John Wayne, become a screen legend, especially to the point where no one cares how awful he really is, or was. 'The Shootist' is more depressing than entertaining - but he went out the way he came in.
And that's what made him a legend.
