Review of The Seven-Ups (1973) by Michael W — 12 May 2014
You watch this for the Bill Hickman car chase (It's Bullit II!), but the rest of the film doesn't have enough action or continuity to hold your attention. Bad guys are kidnapping mob bosses. And the dirtiest cops on the police force, do what exactly, occasionally break antiques? They ain't "The Shield".
Then again, a car case through uptown NY, past hopscotching school children, over the GW, ending in tribute to Jayne Mansfield's can-opening auto-death decapitation (Hickman, one of James Dean's close friends, would never have recreated that accident which he saw with his own eyes).
Roy Schneider had some badass moments (FC, Marathon Man) and he had some SeaQuest moments, even though he's the toughy lead here, he's half-way between.
