Review of The Searchers (1956) by Daniel M — 10 Oct 2012
The best western ever made!
This awasome john Ford masterpiece is filled with class A humor, characteristic of the director, really great action scenes, and it was filmed in one of the most beautiful locations ever.
Of course, the best western must be a Ford one,but this glorious film features too the best western star,John Wayne(Ford+Wayne=Best western ever),of course, there are more westerns featuring the flawless duo like Stagecoach(another masterpiece)but Searchers is way superior...Spielberg himself called it the best MOVIE ever made and Scorsese and Lucas both have it among their favorites.
A perfect tale about intolerance and deep, blind hatred.
Although the film itself is really powerful, heart touching and "rough" the humor is just epic...
Acting:Well,Wayne is Wayne,he's just playing epic, and his most memorables(bests)roles are those where he's an antihero(Red River-The Searchers)...Hunter's performance is amazing as well...
The Oscar:1956!:a great year for cinema's history, but a stupid one awarding movies...The best were:La Strada,Invasion of the Body Snatchers,The Ten Commandments,Giant,The Killing and mainly,The Searchers.Around the World in 80 Days is an awasome movie too,but it cannot be compared with The Searchers!
WTF:We all know that Sean Connery's career(the big ones) started in the sixties. Now,if you look at Scar(Indian Chief)he looks exactly like Sean! I was confused! (he's not,BTW).
Unique Stuff:
-Best Western ever.
-Best John Ford movie.
-Best Jeffrey Hunter performance.
-Best twist ever.
-Best locations ever(western movie).
-John Ford saved an entire indian community from starving to death by giving them work in the movie, and paying them fair salaries.
Masterpiece Rank:Yes! RTmeter:98% Joshua Tanzer you motherfucking asshole!´.
Most Classic Scene:Invading Scar's camp.
Favorite Scene:Ending.
Famous quote:"That'll be the day.".
Did you know? Natalie Wood's little sister portrayed Debbie as a child...
"Not fixated; determined. Like Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive. Like the Duke in The Searchers. Mel Gibson in Payback." NCIS(Reveille).
One of the best movies ever made...
