Review of The Sacrifice (1986) by Emil K — 10 Feb 2009
Dark, haunting and extremely intensive film by late Tarkovsky. Offret stands as one of the most accomplished films by Tarkovsky. The apocalyptic vision of world coming to an end is one of the most captivating ever in history of cinema.
There is no big explosion or chaos. Just a loneliness and horror of a human soul. Performance by Erland Josephson is truly outstanding. Scene where he prays on his knees and makes the ultimate sacrifice for god, is truly work of a master actor.
