Review of The Sacrifice (1986) by Frank V — 19 Jul 2014
Andrei Tarkovsky's final film before his death and also one of his most beautiful, the principal flaw, with most Tarkovsky films, is the outlandish offbeat script. The first half of this film is almost impeccable, offering interesting plot points and beautiful beautiful shots.
And yet the second half goes way off the rails, devoiding itself of the serious tone established by the first half. It's saving grace is the expertly crafted direction and excellent acting. Not his best, but a sizable strength to Tarkovsky's resume.
4/5.
