Review of The Rum Diary (2011) by Steve M — 01 May 2012
My only complaint is the ending. Sure it was a little mixed whether it was supposed to be comedic or show thompsons politically fueled writing but what I think what the aim here was to show the roots of gonzos career in an entertaining manner and bringing some key points that he had.
I'm also not sure what every critic and user seems to be complaining or if it's the popular thing to do and theyre just following each others leads because this was actually a good movie and was surprisingly very funny.
Granted I haven't read the source material (but I don't think many have either) but for the course of its running time I laughed a good many times and I was interested in what was happening on screen which is all you can ask in a film, generally speaking of course.
Solid. I'll watch it again one day. For now I just want to sit back on beach and with a bottle of rum and a good book. 7.5/10.
