Review of The Rum Diary (2011) by Christopher S — 15 Nov 2013
It's refreshing to see Johnny Depp in role that's not directed by Tim Burton, but the film isn't too good. Although I didn't read the novel from which this film is based upon, I could tell where screenwriter Bruce Robinson took direct quotes and input them into his screenplay.
If he had done this better, the dialogue wouldn't have sounded as inconsistent. Because the film has problems with its script, there are problems with its story. It drags on too long. I've watched this film four times, and I still don't understand what it's about because I get lost in its messy storyline.
So I can imagine everyone else will too. But in the end, I guess it doesn't matter too much because it is an entertaining film to watch for fun.
