Review of The Rite (1969) by Renee L — 06 Jun 2015
As a Catholic, I enjoy a good exorcism movie, and this one was no exception. I love "The Exorcist," and I don't feel that frightened by it, outside of a healthy belief in demons and my own powerlessness against them.
There should be more movies about priests, because our culture needs them, and their reputation has taken a hit lately in spite of the fact that the overwhelming majority of them have done nothing wrong.
In this movie, I would have preferred more talk about Christ, rather than just "the Cross" or "the Crucifix," because Christ is so much more than His Cross or Crucifixion. This movie does have its unrealistic moments (not the actual possession), but it is satisfying, and as a Catholic, I found the ending deeply romantic.
