Review of Oculus (2014) by Renee L — 01 Mar 2015
This movie has potential and is definitely terrifying, but the last half of the movie is spent in highly-technologized, self-inflicted isolation of the two siblings who suffered the original trauma in an attempt to recreate and conquer it.
Because of this, there seems to be a basic disconnect between the first half of the movie, which contained more traditional supernatural occurrences, and the second. However, what does make this movie so terrifying is the deeply manipulative nature of the mirror, manifested in its ability to mess with the siblings' perception of reality and linear time.
The reason that I enjoy watching psychological horror films like this one is because they serve as a reminder that we are all powerless against the Demon in whatever form it takes.
