Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Renee L — 04 Jun 2014
Viewing this again, in its completion, at an age where I like to believe that I have acquired some wisdom, I sincerely began to feel that this was the best movie ever made. There is no one like Stanley Kubrick working today.
I realize that all of this has been said before, but this film is to cinema what Shakespeare is to the English language, what the Mona Lisa is to art, and what Bach is to music: as close as an art form can get to perfection.
I have a theory about why actor Keir Dullea disappeared from the industry after this film. After being directed by Kubrick, in such an intense role in such an intense film, nothing else could compare to the experience.
He was ruined for all other directors.
