The film is a little too silly to take seriously. Most of the interesting drama of the Space Race comes from the rivalry with the Soviet Union (which is never really highlighted) and the Apollo programme.
(Gemini was designed simply as a build-up to Apollo.) The Chuck Yeager sidestory was incredibly dull. Still, has some good moments.
