While activist and human rights documentaries are not an uncommon find, the Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World is one of the most eloquent and in-depth documentation of intersectional politics, activism, and generational psychology that I have ever seen.

You will find few films that can cover the wide range of history and sociology that Joshua Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell seek to, and succeed at, examining and framing in a way that both informs the audience and vindicates its subjects, being organizations seeking to fight for human rights and the millennial generation that has become the most progressive and active participants in these groups.

The film begins with a series of clips and stories citing the millennial generation as “lazy,” and “entitled,” a narrative that has become as exhausting as it has been demeaning. The audience is given a rebuke to these statements, one that features an investigation into the sociology and historical events that create the personas and stereotypes of generations, identifying the economic and political turmoils that have shaped the millennial generation into what it is today.

From there, the film jumps into action, exploring the world of activism and politics that millennials are attending in droves, motivated to enact direct and effective change in the corrupt and chaotic socio-political spheres that have left many hopeless.

Interviews from several millennial leaders within politics and activist groups, such as Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Chase Iron Eyes, as well as celebrity activists such as Shailene Woodley and Michelle Rodriguez, who narrates the film, illustrate the masses urgently seeking improvements in the treatment of environmentalism and marginalized groups in America.

There isn’t a desire to simply give this story, but to imbue it with heart and humanity, to explore the necessity for stigmas examined and understood, and voices heard and uplifted.
