Some dodgy / dated editing in the first movie which is handled only slightly better in the second. Apart from those minor issues this is a fantastic movie, a true return to form for John Woo and an epic that can stand along side Ben Hur, Gladiator etc.
Make sure you watch the 4 and a half hour version though rather than the condensed version for the US market.
