Review of The Razor's Edge (1946) by Beverly W — 13 Jun 2009
The razors edge is an unlikely film. when you read the book it does not feel cinematic. its saving grace is that it is human. it has critiques of upper class society galore. anne baxters performance was oscar worthy and really the only one worth noting.
but I can attribute my interest in this story to somerset-maugham. his world-conscious view is what makes this worthwhile. the character of larry is something to aspire to. and its not as if he does everything right.
he is a man with goodness but still must deal with the fallen world. when he shuns tierneys character at the end for the last time there are few more triumphant endings in all of storytelling.
