Review of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) by Melissa M — 13 May 2011
I am going to have to disagree with all of the critic's reviews. Isn't it kind of funny when most normal everyday people like movies that critics don't? I think Gerard Butler isn't given enough credit either.
They always compare him to the phantoms from the older versions. But for me, he IS the Phantom of the Opera. He causes me such emotional pain when I see him in this role. He doesn't just try to sing the songs and sound beautiful, he puts emotions into it.
He sounds like the unstable and hurting man that the Phantom is supposed to be. But at the same time, he is suave and smooth in a rough, irresistible sort of way. I thought he was absolutely brilliant.
The music is as well. I absolutely love this movie. I watch it all the time.
