Review of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) by Stephen R — 20 Feb 2012
As a fan of the stage versions of the Phantom, I wasn't sure what to expect from a Hollywood take on the classic tale, but came away impressed. Rossum's Christine was perfect in every way, though Bulter did seem to falter a bit as the Phantom (as I didn't think his [if it was him] singing voice had the power for such a demanding role).
The Flash-Forwards scattered throughout the movie added a new element to the story, which would have only bogged down a stage production timewise. Considering how dark most Schumacher films are, this wasn't that bad.
