Review of The Phantom of the Opera (1925) by Michael C — 19 Aug 2009
I always wanted to see this movie for some time now and finally found an old copy. I have never seen any version of this movie before so I thought going into this with an empty mindset I would appreciate it more. After doing a little research on Lon Chaney I discovered his makeup was not only done by himself but both of his parents were deft so as a child I assumed he would have a well grasp on facial expressions.
I watched the movie all the way through and it left me in awe. Such an amazing movie. Truly a piece of history in American cinema. Why is it you never see these films shown as much anymore? This movie is a classic misunderstood monster meets girl film and had a well placed cast of actors and the musical soundtrack fits it like a silk glove. Seeing the phantom's face just sends a chills down my spine, such a great visage of horror. I highly recommend this movie to those who have an opened mind or a thirst for classical horror cinema.
