Review of The Phantom of the Opera (1925) by David H — 28 Jan 2010
A little bit hampered by the fact that this story was meant to be told as a musical, but it achieves exactly that haunting, grotesque but beautiful style that makes it so timeless. The Phantom gives a truly phenomenal performance, and the melodrama in many scenes is almost hypnotizing.
Perhaps too abrupt of an ending, but a masterful work of darkness overall.
