Review of The Phantom of the Opera (1925) by Russell W — 14 Mar 2011
***1/2 (out of four).
The original film production. This silent film was an important step in film history. It still holds up as the best version of this story that I have seen.
Lon Chaney is fantastic as the hideous phantom who lurks beneath a Paris opera house. His mere presence captivates. It is a wonderful blend of horror and romance.
