Review of The Peanuts Movie (2015) by Jazzmin M — 31 Jul 2016
I love Peanuts. I never read any of the comic strips, but I have grown up with the animated specials. I was very exited for this film, and I have to say, it didn't disappoint one bit. It gave me exactly what I wanted.
The story is simple, but endearing. The animation is stellar. It's so bright and colorful, and the animators did a great job at transferring the characters from hand-drawn animation to CGI. All of the characters are as lovable as they were in the past.
The voice acting is very good, and I liked that they tried to get actors who sound like previous ones who voiced the characters in the past. I really loved Charlie Brown in this movie. He's such a sweet kid.
I really wanted him to succeed. The movie is also very funny. I guess the only problems I had with the movie is that I felt that Snoopy had too much screen time. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely adore Snoopy.
He is a fun, lovable character. But I feel that he should've only appeared in small scenes, not have big, long action-packed moments. I just felt that it distracted too much from the main plot of the film.
Also, I felt that the film was a little too unambitious. I don't know, I felt that it could've tried to give us something new with the story. But other than that, I think The Peanuts Movie is good.
Adults will love it for the nostalgic factor and kids will love it for it's silliness and fun. If you're not a fan of Peanuts, I guess I can't guarantee you'll enjoy it, but it is a treat.
It's sweet and cute. Like I said, I can't really compare it to the comic strips, but based on my years of exposure to the animated television specials, I think it stays true to the spirit of Charles Schultz's work, and he would be very proud.
