Review of The Peanuts Movie (2015) by Tubey — 14 Nov 2015
It will get good reviews from those who take the nostalgia bait that this movie is clearly going for, but for others - including me - this is a cynical cash grab on a well known licence that lacks any of the heart and soul the original material had.
The problem is that it isn't funny or charming. It has little narrative structure and instead comes across as a splash of ideas, old and new, that haven't been formed properly. It has no right being a movie - maybe if this was a series of shorts on a kids TV channel, it would have worked better, but it certainly doesn't fit the movie format.
It gets points for masterfully bringing the animation up to modern day levels, but visuals and a slapdash attempt to hook nostalgia alone does not a good movie make.
