Review of The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Jessica O — 11 Feb 2013
Look, I'm Christian. I love Jesus and I understand what Mel Gibson was going for. But it just..doesn't ..work this way. It shows us the how , but it does not clearly explain and show why Jesus suffered and died.
It tries to say love, but instead it screams hate. I was so appalled by this movie and I felt so dirty watching it because not only does Mel Gibson drag out the torture with slow-mo effects, but he also shoves your face into it.
This is a big example of movie that tries way too hard, and because it tries too hard it obscures any message that Mel Gibson is trying to get across to the audience. If someone like Eric Cartman likes this movie, then there's something seriously wrong here.
Speaking of which, go watch South Park's "The Passion of the Jew" episode. They'll settle everything.
