Review of The Paradine Case (1947) by Stephen D — 04 Aug 2008
A bizarrely mixed bag. An intriguing storyline and some excellent acting, but it also had several major flaws. The first being that the femme fatale seductress was neither alluring nor compelling. Combine that lack of any obvious cause for Gregory Peck's infatuation with the decision to never show his character's emotions or reasonings directly, but only the insinuations of those around him, and it became very difficult to be engaged by the main character.
Perhaps the whole thing is just a touch too subtle and understated for me, but it seems like such a shame, as some relatively minor tweaks could have made this a terrific movie.
