Review of The Panic in Needle Park (1971) by Mikael K — 22 Nov 2009
A low key portrayal of drug abuse, "Panic in Needle Park" seems like a clear response to all the romanticism associated with the subject in the 60's. The film is gloomy, hopeless and quite a tedious one to watch, despite Pacino's good performance.
In short the movie's effective but not horribly engaging. It would be easy to say that this is the only way to depict drug addiction realistically, but Darren Aronofsky's "Requiem for a Dream" disproved that notion completely 30 years after "Panic".
