Review of The Panic in Needle Park (1971) by John M — 25 Jan 2014
Engrossing character study of two drug addicts in love but nothing i'd ever see again. Al Pacino definitely shows shades of a promising actor here in his first starring movie, and even his Bobby reminds me of Michael Corleone.
Its a sad, often times hard to watch movie. The needle to the arm scenes are particularly gross which I guess was the point of Jerry Schatzberg focusing on it. I was particularly amazed by Kitty Winn's character, she was already a rather pathetic character in my eyes the first moment we saw her, but to see her spiral down into this disgusting world of drugs with her lover Bobby, just made me pity her even more.
