Review of The Panic in Needle Park (1971) by Mike G — 23 Apr 2011
Jerry Schatzberg's film is not a film about two characters trying to make 'bread' to feed their drug habit. It's much more than that. It's a story about two characters crying out for help, and for salvation that pounds through it's audience.
The writing is pitch-perfect, and Al Pacino's second performance is undeniably incredible. He throws so much into playing a character that has so many different layers, different feelings and different motives and we, as the audience get so much out of it.
This is a heart-crushing, psychedelic masterpiece with everything I've come to aspect from Al Pacino in a lead performance. An immaculate and brutally honest depiction of life in areas run down by drugs.
