Review of The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) by Ryan L — 01 Apr 2008
This is a moral tale that is only ostensibly a Western. This story could have taken place anywhere at any time. The idea of looking at yourself as part of the problem is interesting here, considering it's the middle of WWII when this was being made.
Not the tone of the time at all. The movie is essentially moved along by the conflict between a dickhead colonel and his gentle son, although you don't really realize that for the majority of the movie.
Henry Fonda is awesome in this. The actress that played Ma Joad is also in this as the butch lady. And the Wicked Witch of the West makes a small cameo.
