Review of The Name of the Rose (1986) by Aaron L — 25 May 2010
From what i'm reading it sounds like this movie is best enjoyed after reading the original book The Name of The Rose. I have not read the book, but the movie was decent. Clearly the best part of the movie is the relationship between Sean Connery and a young Christian Slater.
At some points I thought the visuals were good, but for the most part the imaging was dull and very plain. The dialogue was at its best when Connery was speaking, but when he wasn't I just felt a void of plot and emotion.
This movie is worth giving a shot because at some points I was totally enthralled it just didn't have that level of intensity throughout the entire film. The last line in the movie made this movie worth watching.
