Review of The Naked Prey (1965) by Christopher E — 15 Feb 2009
Actor/Director Cornel Wilde's riveting action film about a man captured then hunted by a group of African tribesmen in the wilds of South Africa.
The story and direction are perfectly spare to the near point of abstraction while Wilde's inter-cutting of footage of animals preying on one another is symbolic not only of the action happening onscreen but to the civil unrest that was emerging in America at the time.
Based on an actual event that occurred in the American west during the 19th century and served as a template for Mel Gibson's equally brilliant Apocalypto.
