Review of The Mission (1986) by Matthew L — 05 Mar 2008
Powerful epic about a slave-trader mercenary who joins a Jesuit mission in South America as penance for murdering his own brother, and ends up defending the natives from a church onslaught looking to quell the Jesuit rebellion.
Beautifully photographed, with a haunting score by Ennio Morricone, "The Mission" doesn't always connect, but when it does its something to behold.
