Review of The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1944) by Sv G — 15 Nov 2008
Poor Betty Hutton, goes to a farewell party for the brave soldiers going overseas, gets drunk on spiked lemonade, gets married under a fake name, and gets knocked-up by a soldier whose name she can't quite remember ("Zatzkawatski? Ratskawuski?"). So, it's up to poor 4F Eddie Bracken to save her honor, with numerous lies and only a few felonies.
Writer/Director Preston Sturges at his literate, fast-paced, slapstick-y peak. William Demarest plays Hutton's cantankerous (Of course.) traffic-cop father. Watch as an Eddie Bracken/Sturges double-feature with "Hail the Conquering Hero".
