Review of The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1944) by Joe L — 23 Apr 2009
Of all the screwball comedies of this period, so far, this is my favorite. preston sturges has honed his comic skills perfectly. the banter crackles, as with all these films, but what really sets it apart from the rest is the uncharacteristically unwholesome plot (ditzy girl gets trashed at a party, finds herself married and pregnant the next day with no memory of what happened) and the unabashed earnestness and stratospheric chemistry between stars eddie bracken and betty hutton.
clearly inspired some aspects of 'burn after reading,' for we're watching excessively stupid, frantic people as they inadequately deal with a complex situation. I much preferred this over all the grant/hepburn comedies.
