Review of The Meg (2018) by Neil H — 09 Aug 2018
This film is nothing amazing, but the film is definitely lots of fun. Not every movie needs to be the next milestone or the next academy awards contender; some movies are just meant to be exciting and fun, and that's exactly what this film is.
Most "monster" movies, which by that I also include films like this and the Jurassic Park films, rarely become critically acclaimed hits. There are some notable exceptions, such as: Alien, Aliens, Predator, Jaws, the original Jurassic Park, the original King Kong, the original Godzilla/Gojira, etc.
.. (and by the way, I also fully expect 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters to be joining this list soon), but for the most part, a great many end up lacking in an area or another, but still manage to be very exciting and overly thrilling.
I feel as though The Meg joins Jurassic World, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, Godzilla (2014), Kong Skull Island, and Pacific Rim in this vein of films that are not necessarily perfect monster films, but indeed are perfectly exciting and fun films in their own right and worth the watch if you love giant monster movies.
