Review of The Man Who Laughs (1928) by Kyle V — 20 Aug 2008
A creeparific silent starring Conrad Veidt as a boy mutilated by gypsies and given a permanent clownish smile. Bob Kane says this is the inspiration for the Joker, and Veidt's performance is sure indelible.
Tragic and exciting, romantic and insightful.
