Review of The Magician (1958) by Jake R — 10 Aug 2007
Filling in the gap for me between Wild Strawberries (a superlative to Bergman's work) and Virgin Spring, I was real excited to see this hard to get film in 35mm as a sort of goodbye to the director. This is definitely at the most exciting point in the director's career in my opinion; so I was really excited to see this smart and challenging film about magic, art, reality, and religion.
My only complaint is the deus ex machina at the end, but other than that I have no complaints.
