Review of The Magician (1958) by Roger T — 19 Apr 2010
I liked this much more than I expected. actually, if it wasn't for the final 15 mins of footage, it would probably be one of my favourite films of all time. the black and white is so crispy that it really seems the film was made today. also, much funnier than the usual bergman! pity about those final 15 mins. it should have finished with the spooky aparition, not knowing whether it was real or not, and not trying to explain everything and give it a 'perfect' round finish. that was bollocks. 'bollocks on a stick', as the infamous ms dundas says. but, still, very very enjoyable indeed.
"the ghost stole the vodka!".
