Great movie and a surprisingly dark and gritty one (for 1945) about a very serious subject: alcoholism. director billy wilder does a great job of making you feel the pain and humiliation don birnam (ray milland) suffers.
it won 4 oscars - best picture, director, actor,screenplay - so that tells you something.
