Review of The Lost Daughter (2021) by Chanekecholo — 04 Jan 2022
The Lost Daughter is an unnatural film, move the molds about what it means the motherhood to exposes us the other side of the coin, the dark side. Maggie Gyllenhaal adapts the book of the same name in a masterly way, maybe not making us understand, but making us feel what she wants to convey.
I love Olivia Colman performances, but I'm gonna say that this performance is the best of her career, also for Jessie Buckley and Dakota Johnson. They are so sincere and natural to manifest such an unnatural thought to make us think that it should be a natural thought and this will be rejected for some people.
The story is slow and tries to play with the surreal at times, on a first impression, this causes a mess to get more involved in the story. It's a film which we have to take another look at.
