Review of The Long Goodbye (1973) by Chris M — 11 Jun 2007
The Best Philip Marlowe Ever, and hands down the best gumshoe caper flick ever. When a classic noir story can be set in the least noir era of LA's history (the fucking summer of love) and still be this wicked.
..you know you have a damn good movie. Gould is pure genius, and Sterling Hayden is perfect. The kind of creative expansion that Altman does with Chandler's story is the reason movies have a right to be based on novels.
