Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by Jamy S — 28 Jan 2008
This dark and stylishly violent British crime flick was the first that brought Bob Hoskins to my attention. Hoskins is perfect as an ambitious crime king who, in an attempt to enlarge his criminal kingdom, takes a step over his head, and fails to realize what is happening around him as his plans falter.
Riveting performance, right to and including the unforgettable final, wordless, lengthy shot of Hoskins (recently revived for use in Michael Clayton).
