Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by James M — 15 Apr 2008
Definitely a standard-setter for British gangster films. Not easy to tell what's going on sometimes - the risky (but memorable) opening scenes can be confusing to audiences. Possibly Bob Hoskins' best work - go watch "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" again and you'll gain new respect for his performance in that film (seriously).
A lot of familiar faces first gained their fame with roles in "The Long Good Friday" - "Hatchet Harry" from "Lock, Stock", "Brick Top" from "Snatch" and "Gibbs" from "Pirates of the Caribbean" (blink and you'll miss him).
