Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
If you've only seen Bob Hoskins in 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' then I can't stress how important it is to see him in 'The Long Good Friday' The writing of this movie doesn't quite click all the pieces together.
While you understand what is going on, you never quite feel engaged by it, you don't feel the weight of Harold Shand's issues. But Hoskins made me completely overlook those problems with his performance.
He has such a physical presence on screen. He changes gears so quick from insane rage to lovable joker and you buy it from beginning to end. It doesn't get any better than his introduction and last scene with that hypnotic theme song blaring.
See this film for Hoskins, tremendous performance!
