Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by Lyle R — 07 Jan 2012
Well-acted, complex British gangster thriller from 1980, which still holds up well. Hoskins and Mirren are brilliant as gangster Harold Shand and his girlfriend Victoria, as they try to determine who's attacking his empire whilst trying to do a complex London waterfront deal with the Mafia.
Hoskins in particular does a magnificent job making a brutish thug like Shand a sympathetic character you can't help rooting for.
