Review of The Last Winter (2006) by Alex E — 19 May 2008
The first "green" horror film I've come across, The Last Winter situates itself firmly between cabin-fever paranoia tale and liberal guilt-trip. Luckily, Larry Fessenden is a skilled enough filmmaker to keep his odd genre hybrid grounded in something resembling reality.
Think John Carpenter's The Thing minus the shape-shifting alien, and you're not far off. I don't exactly know what message Fessenden is trying to get across, but The Last Winter is a hypnotically effective film no matter what your opinion on global warming might be.
