Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Brandon C — 17 Aug 2010
This Martin Scorsese ultra-personal master work derived from one of the most controversial books to an equally controversial film. The only thing that I I don't understand all the fuss about it is about an everyday John Doe going to through his life scared like the everyday average Joe and how he reacts to violence and death in cowardice.
The only difference is that this John Doe is Jesus Christ and he's trying to figure out in the usual multilayer thought provess that looks at our positives; but tends to stay in the realm of a modern day skeptic philosophy.
Jesus feeling and knowing that he is the son of god, like a teenager, is very indifferent and inner conflicted to whatever his supposed "father" wants. Where love or the axe. As the film continues the usual gospel version of Jesus visualizing what heaven will be like to the first Christians.
Eternal life and happiness after treating and living your life to the beat of the genuine good person out in the world. Jesus finally in the end accepts his lamb of god fate and realizes, that his sacrifice can and will open new doors to possibilities and plausible sanctification.
