Nicholson turns in a wonderful performance as a tough US navy guy who has to escort a fairly clueless randy quaid to jail and decides to give him the time of his life..very early 70s america so the subtext is the watergate/nam turmoil.
......this film made me want to join the US navy: shame about the poster/cover which makes it more like a gay movie, though!
