Two Navy men are ordered to bring a young and naïve offender to prison, but they decide to show him a good time along the way. This tale of an unlikely friendship between three colourful and different characters is tough talking and funny but also brimming with humanity.

This is thanks to the great collaboration between Robert Towne and Hal Ashby, two of the main figures of the Hollywood New Wave, who from paper to screen tell the tale with grittiness and never give way to sentimentalism but are still able to connect closely with the audience in a work that is entertaining as well as hard working.

The Last Detail also features Jack Nicholson in one of the best performances of his career.
