Review of The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976) by Darrin N — 25 Oct 2008
A typically extraordinary character study from Cassavetes, focused, as a lot of crime drama is, on the shifting dynamics of inter-male behavior. Ben Gazzara in the central role is better than I've ever seen him, and Seymour Cassel is excellent as usual as one of Gazzara's team of nemeses.
Also, it was great to see the goofy, menacing bulk of Timothy Carey - whom John Turturro has been channeling for his whole career - in what looks to have been his last decent feature role.
