Review of The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976) by John C — 26 Mar 2011
The original 1976 version is a low key masterpiece, a wonderful character drama about a "loser" with a dream. The 1978 director's cut sacrifices a lot of the character and mood of the piece which does help expedite the pacing of the plot, but loses what is truly special about the movie.
